Police in Jackson arrested 51‑year‑old Jarques Ratliff in the murder of Tasia Fortune, a Black woman found hanging from a tree in August. Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney said the arrest followed a search warrant and that the state medical examiner declared the death a homicide. The chief noted the case is still active and more arrests could come. Fortune’s mother, Christy Spivey, thanked officers after learning of the arrest but said no motive was shared. The investigation continues.
