Indonesian passenger ship overturns, sparking search for about 130 missing

A passenger ferry, the Virgo Transport 8, overturned in the Java Sea on Sunday amid rough seas. The 119‑meter vessel, carrying 243 people—including 213 passengers, 30 crew, and 89 vehicles—lost contact at 2 a.m. Rescue teams, supported by four navy ships and two helicopters, have recovered 108 survivors and six bodies, but 129 people remain missing. The search continues around the vessel’s last known position, about 148 kilometers from Banjarmasin.
